FLORENCE, S.C. - Kylee Smith earned two wins Saturday as the No. 3 University of North Georgia softball team cruised to a Peach Belt sweep of Francis Marion Saturday.
GAME 1 - UNG 7, FMU 0
Olivia Sinquefield put North Georgia on the board first, singling in the third to plate
Kaylyn Anthony.
Kelly Kahlert came across the plate in the fourth inning on a Patriot error that doubled the Nighthawk lead to 2-0.
In the fifth,
Katie Collins doubled the North Georgia lead again, bringing home two runs on a single to the gap in right center. One inning later,
Kali Turner hit a ball to the same gap, earning a two-run double that pushed the UNG lead to 6-0.
Cheyanne Mosteller scored later that inning on a wild pitch to get the final score.
Smith (14-0) struck out eight across 6.1 innings, scattering a hit and a walk along the way.
Riley Patton finished out the final 0.2 innings without giving up a hit, giving the two a combined one-hitter.
GAME 2 - UNG 7, FMU 2
North Georgia got rolling again in the first, using two-out doubles from
Marley Stowers and
Shelby Hammontree to earn a 3-0 lead through just a half inning.
The Patriots answered in the second inning, scoring two off a double with the bases loaded and almost tied it up had it not been for a relay from left field that got the tying run out at the plate, preserving a one-run lead.
The Nighthawks got insurance runs in sixth, scoring a run off a
Harlee Williams single before a bases clearing double from Collins that scored the final three runs of the game.
Smith (15-0) struck out eight more in relief, giving up just two walks across 4.2 innings of work.
NOTES
- Collins finished the day going 3-for-7 with five RBI. Anthony went 3-for-6 with two runs scored.
- UNG finished the day with six doubles, bringing their league-leading total to 48 this season.
