DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia tennis teams will take on two opponents this week, starting with a Saturday road match at Carson-Newman before returning home for PBC action at the UNG Tennis Complex against Georgia College.
Rankings: The women are currently ranked No. 13 in the nation after making a run to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 a year ago.
Vaishali Jorge is the No. 3 singles player in the nation, while
Holly Bennett is No. 39 in the nation. UNG's women's team has two nationally-ranked doubles duo.
Last Week: The women swept through their matches last week, defeating Tusculum, 5-2, before winning their first Peach Belt match of the season over Augusta, 6-1. The men also went 2-0 on the week, downing Tusculum by a score of 6-1 before a 7-0 shutout of Augusta on Tuesday.
History Against Opponents: UNG's men are 2-0 against Tusculum all-time, winning in 2014 and 2017, the most recent of which was a 9-0 win for the Nighthawks. UNG is 3-10 against Augusta all-time, but North Georgia has won two straight in the series. UNG's women are 2-1 against Tusculum, falling in last year's matchup, 7-2. North Georgia is 3-9 against the Jaguars all-time, winning each of the last three matchups. UNG has won each of the last two years by scores of 8-1.
Carson-Newman Scout: Carson-Newman's men are 1-6 on the year, defeating Virginia-Wise, 7-0, early in the season. The Eagle women are 3-3 on the year, trading wins and losses each time out.
Georgia College Scout: Georgia College's men are 4-1 on the year and 1-1 in league play headed into a Saturday matchup against Lincoln Memorial. They are ranked No. 13 in the nation and No. 7 in the region. Matthias Rogel is the No. 16 singles player in the Southeast Region, while he and his partner Robin Moller are the No. 7 doubles duo in the region. Georgia College's women are 2-2 on the year and will be opening PBC play against the Nighthawks. The Bobcats are receiving votes nationally and are the No. 5 team in the southeast. Emilia Richter is the No. 12 singles player in the region, and Valeria Lopez is ranked No. 13. The two ladies combine to form the No. 6 doubles duo in the region.
