DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia tennis teams will play two matches at home this week, taking on Tusculum in a rescheduled match Monday before opening PBC play against Augusta on Tuesday afternoon.
Rankings: The women are currently ranked No. 13 in the nation after making a run to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 a year ago.
Vaishali Jorge is the No. 3 singles player in the nation, while
Holly Bennett is No. 39 in the nation. UNG's women's team has two nationally-ranked doubles duo. New rankings will come out on February 20.
Schedule Updates: Matches against Queens and Southern Wesleyan scheduled for February 17 and 20, respectively, have been postponed and have not been rescheduled at this point.
Last Week: The women fell in their first matchup of the year the last time out against No. 7 Saint Leo, 6-1. The men pushed No. 7 Saint Leo to the brink, but ultimately fell to the Lions, 4-3.
History Against Opponents: UNG's men are 2-0 against Tusculum all-time, winning in 2014 and 2017, the most recent of which was a 9-0 win for the Nighthawks. UNG is 3-10 against Augusta all-time, but North Georgia has won two straight in the series. UNG's women are 2-1 against Tusculum, falling in last year's matchup, 7-2. North Georgia is 3-9 against the Jaguars all-time, winning each of the last three matchups. UNG has won each of the last two years by scores of 8-1.
Tusculum Scout: Tusculum's men are the 10th-ranked team in the southeast region by the ITA. Tusculum's women are the second-ranked team in the region by the association and are led by Annie McCullough, who is the No. 35 singles player in the nation and No. 7 in the region. Both teams are 2-1 headed into a Sunday matchup with Young Harris.
Augusta Scout: Augusta's men are led by Patrick Oliveira, the No. 30 singles player in the nation and No. 9 in the region. The Jaguar men are 4-3 and 0-1 in league play, while the women are 5-1 on the year.
