MELBOURNE, Fla. - Kylee Smith tossed a no-hitter in game one while five pitchers combined for a second no-hitter as the No. 3 University of North Georgia softball team swept the final day of the Florida Tech Invitational, knocking off Lynn and Converse Sunday.
GAME ONE - UNG 5, Lynn 0
UNG got the scoring started early on a
Kaylee Womack single that scored
Hobby Gregory in the first inning. One inning later, the Nighthawks doubled their lead on a Gregory double that plated
Alishia Frierson. In the fourth, North Georgia added another as
Kelly Kahlert sprinted home on a Knight error to make the score 3-0.
Frierson put an exclamation mark on the game in the seventh with a two-RBI triple to right center that scored
Kaylyn Anthony and
Katelyn Perry to bring the game to its final score.
Smith (8-0) earned the win, allowing just one walk and another to reach on an error while striking out 13.
GAME TWO - UNG 6, Converse 0
Again, North Georgia started quickly, getting
Olivia Sinquefield on with a single and advancing her around on a stolen base and a Gregory RBI single to put UNG up, 1-0. The Nighthawks added another in the opening inning on a Womack sacrifice fly that doubled the lead for UNG.
The Nighthawks doubled their lead again in the second on a two-run blast by
Adella Carver before scoring the final two runs of the game in the fifth. Kahlert stole home after moving to third on a
Cheyanne Mosteller bunt. Anthony pushed Mosteller across for the game's final run on a double to left center.
Laken Chambers (4-1) earned the win, combining for a no-hitter with
Abbie Crawford,
Riley Patton,
Bria Bush and
Lauren Beshears, all of which threw one inning in the win.
NOTES
- Frierson went 4-for-4 at the plate while Gregory and Womack each went 3-for-6 to lead the Nighthawks at the plate.
- Smith threw her second no-hitter of her career.
