Baseball Runs Past Flagler in Peach Belt Opener

DAHLONEGA - Steven Bower threw seven innings to earn the win as the University of North Georgia baseball team defeated Flagler, 9-4, Friday night at Bob Stein Stadium.

The Nighthawks got on the board first in the second inning, using a Josh Profit RBI double and a William Mapes RBI single to push the lead to 2-0. After the Saints cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth, UNG answered, starting with a leadoff bomb by Conner Corbitt. Later in the inning, Profit singled to score Jake Arnold just before Crews Taylor doubled to score two more Nighthawks and push the lead to 6-1.

Flagler got a run back in the sixth on a solo shot, but again, North Georgia answered. Nik Levensteins hit a sacrifice fly to center to push a run across, and Nick Clarno hit a two-run bomb to make the score 9-2. The Saints pushed two across in the ninth to bring the game to its final score.

NOTES
- Bower (2-1) gave up just two runs off eight hits while striking out five across his seven innings of work. FC's Derick Garcia (2-1) was credited with the loss, giving up six runs on 10 hits over 4.2 innings. Only two of the runs he gave up were earned.

- Mapes led the Nighthawks at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four singles. Taylor went 3-for-4, while four other Nighthawks had a multi-hit game.
