Baseball Splits Series-Ending Doubleheader with No. 15 Southern Indiana

DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia baseball team split its series-ending doubleheader with No. 15 Southern Indiana Saturday night at Bob Stein Stadium, winning the series finale, 6-3.

GAME ONE - USI 7, UNG 4
Jacob Fleming got Southern Indiana on the board in the top of the first with a RBI double down the line in left before Ethan Hunter homered to score two more in the fourth inning to put the Screaming Eagles on top, 3-0.

UNG cut the lead to one in the fourth with back-to-back solo bombs by Conner Corbitt and Jake Arnold, but the Screaming Eagles got both runs back in the fifth and seventh innings, both times with Fleming crossing the plate.

The Nighthawks again cut the lead to one in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run blast by Bill LeRoy to make the score 5-4. USI scored twice in the top of the ninth and the Nighthawk rally fell short.

GAME TWO - UNG 6, USI 3
This time, it was Corbitt getting UNG on the board early, hitting a three-run blast in the bottom of the first to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Screaming Eagles tied the game back up in the third, scoring three runs on just two hits and three UNG errors, but the Nighthawks got the lead back just one inning later on a Chase Sudduth triple off the wall in right center.

UNG got two more insurance runs in the eighth when Corbitt hit his second homer of the day, this one a two-run bomb to left that put North Georgia up, 6-3.

NOTES
- Parker Morrison earned his fourth save of the year in the series finale, retiring the final nine batters of the game, eight of which were by strikeout.

- Corbitt went 4-for-7 in the doubleheader with five RBI and three runs scored.
