DAHLONEGA - Katey Derkay scored two goals in under two minutes as the No. 18 University of North Georgia women's soccer team finished Peach Belt play with a 3-1 win over Albany State Saturday afternoon at the UNG Soccer Complex.
Derkay's first goal came off a pass from
Taylor Malasek in the 12th minute, and then, two minutes later, Malasek found
Rosie Embley in the 18 who pushed the ball to Derkay to double the Nighthawk lead.
North Georgia found paydirt again in the 31st minute when
Dani Shartouny scored a breakaway goal by chipping it past the keeper to give UNG a 3-0 lead into halftime. ASU found a goal in the 88th minute to bring the match to its final score.
NOTES
- Derkay notched her first collegiate brace in the match.
- North Georgia finishes the season with 28 points in league play, locking down a top-two seed in the upcoming PBC tournament. Currently, the Nighthawks are tied with Flagler at the top of the table, but the Saints still have one match remaining.
- Following the match, the women's soccer program honored
Payton Bisso, Shartouny,
Daizah Patterson, Embley and
Olivia Dumphy for their efforts in their Nighthawk careers.
