PREVIEW: Cross Country Readies for Peach Belt Championships

Meet Preview: The University of North Georgia cross country team heads up to Lumberton, North Carolina, to compete for the Peach Belt Conference Championship Saturday morning at Luther Britt Park.

Opponents: Running in the 5K race is Augusta, Clayton State, Columbus State, Flagler, Francis Marion, Georgia College, Georgia Southwestern, Lander, North Georgia, UNC Pembroke, USC Aiken and Young Harris.

Last Time Out: Aleah Johnson finished in third place to lead the University of North Georgia cross country team to another first-place finish this season as they ran away with the Georgia College Bobcat Invitational title Saturday. Johnson led 10 Nighthawks to finishes in the top 20 in the race, running a 22:36 6K. Karmen LeRoy finished in fifth place, 20 seconds behind Johnson. Bree Hammond finished a tenth of a second behind LeRoy in sixth, followed by Maria Coughlin in eighth and Olivia Henry in 11th. Other Nighthawks in the top 20 included Elise Glorvigen (12th), Brynn Wilson (13th), Kenedi Rodney (15th), Cheyenne Spinks (17th) and Mariah Millsap (20th). The entirety of the North Georgia competitors finished in the top 40 of the 105-runner field.
 
USTFCCCA Rankings: The Nighthawks dropped a spot to No. 5 as Anderson vaulted into the top five, jumping four spots to No. 3. Flagler fell to No. 4 as well.

Team of Academic Distinction: Sarah Buckler, Maria Coughlin, Elise Glorvigen, Bree Hammond, Aleah Johnson, Mariah Millsap and Kenedi Rodney were all named to the Peach Belt Team of Academic Distinction, joining 32 other PBC runners on the team

Forecast: Temperatures at race time are forecasted to be in the low to mid 60s with a slight wind out of the east.
