AMERICUS, Ga. - Renee VanHorn scored in the second minute of play as the No. 23 University of North Georgia women's soccer team improved to 3-0-0 in Peach Belt Conference play with a 7-1 win over Georgia Southwestern Wednesday evening.
VanHorn scored two goals and assisted on a goal from
Rosie Embley as well. After Embley scored in the seventh minute to put UNG up, 2-0, GSW found the net when Ella Hawkins scored in the 15th minute to cut the lead in half.
From there, the Nighthawks took over, allowing just six more shots in the contest.
Meredith Tucker and
Abbie Crane each scored late in the first half to give UNG a 4-1 lead headed to halftime before VanHorn,
Haleigh Elmore and
Michaela Sundstrom scored in the second half to bring the match to its final score.
NOTES
- GSW's score in the first half was the Hurricanes' first goal in the series since 2014. North Georgia has now won all 15 matchups in the series.
- The Nighthawks took 32 shots in the match, 17 of which were on target. Tucker led the way with five shots, while VanHorn took four.
- Sundstrom and Elmore each netted their first goals of the season.
