AUGUSTA, Ga. - The No. 28 University of North Georgia women's tennis team dropped just one doubles match as they coasted to their fourth straight win in an 8-1 victory over Augusta Friday afternoon. The Nighthawks are still undefeated in Peach Belt Conference action this year at 6-0.
The No. 8 doubles duo of
Felicia Baratta and
Holly Bennett got things started for UNG, winning at No. 1 doubles, 8-4.
Emma Etelalahti and
Vaishali Jorge followed with an identical win at No. 2 doubles, giving the Nighthawks a 2-1 lead headed to singles.
In singles,
Cibeles Zuddy gave the Nighthawks a 3-1 lead with her straight-set win at No. 5 doubles. Nationally-ranked No. 61
Holly Bennett finished next with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles to bring UNG to within a point of clinching the win before
Adrienne Bofinger, ranked 74th in the nation, won in a 6-0, 6-0 rout at the top flight to clinch the match.
The Nighthawks didn't stop there, winning the final three matches, including a three-set thriller for Baratta at No. 2 singles.
North Georgia will take on Mount Olive tomorrow morning at Young Harris. First serve is at 11 a.m.
