No. 33 Women's Tennis Sweeps Lander, 9-0

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Without losing a single set, the No. 33 University of North Georgia women's tennis team shut out Lander Tuesday afternoon, 9-0, in Peach Belt Conference action at Lander's Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

Cibeles Zuddy and Adrienne Bofinger got the match started with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles, followed very closely by an 8-2 win by Vaishali Jorge and Emma Etelalahti at No. 2 doubles. The nationally ranked No. 12 doubles pair of Holly Bennett and Felicia Baratta put away the Bearcats' top doubles pair, 8-5, to give North Georgia a clean sweep of the doubles matches.

The Nighthawks did not give up a set in singles, winning all six matches handily. The only match to have Lander get five games in a set was at No. 1 singles when Eduarda Ferreira got to a 7-5 first set before Bofinger shut her out in the second set, 6-0, to claim the point. Every other match saw the Nighthawks hold LU to four or less games won per set.

With the win, UNG is now 10-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference play. The Nighthawks are tied for the conference lead with Columbus State.

North Georgia will battle Augusta in PBC action on Friday. First serve from the Newman Tennis Center is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
