YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - In front of a national audience, the No. 23 University of North Georgia women's basketball team claimed its 14th Peach Belt Conference win of the season in a 71-69 come from behind win over Young Harris Wednesday evening. The Nighthawks maintain a two-game lead over the field in the conference standings.
After two made Mountain Lion free throws with 2:37 left in the game, the Nighthawk defense clamped down, holding YHC without a point down the stretch. UNG finished on a 7-0 run, including a layup by
Julie McKie with 20 seconds left to take the lead for good.
Mackenzie Darrah led North Georgia in the scoring column with 20 points, while YHC's Ge'Naisha Robinson matched Darrah's point total to lead the Mountain Lions.
NOTES
- Darrah's 20 points came on 10-of-12 shooting, tying her career high for made field goals in a single game.
- The Nighthawks were just 3-of-5 from the free throw line, compared to 7-of-10 for YHC. The last time North Georgia shot five free throws in a game was against Flagler on January 4, 2017, in a game UNG won, 56-38.
