No. 2 Softball Claims Two Wins at Disney Citrus Classic

ORLANDO - In day one of the Disney Citrus Classic at the Wide World of Sports, the No. 2 University of North Georgia softball team remained undefeated by defeating Wheeling Jesuit and Dominican Friday. The Nighthawks defeated WJU, 7-2, before a 4-0 win over Dominican in the second game of the day.

In the Dominican game, the Nighthawks got on the board in the first inning after Marley Stowers got things going with a double to center. Lexi Duncan brought her home for the game's first run on a RBI double to left. Shelby Hammontree scored on a wild pitch as well in the inning to give UNG a 2-0 lead.

Sydney Sprague reignited the offense in the third with a solo bomb to left field to give the Nighthawks a 3-0 lead before Hobby Gregory scored on a wild pitch in the seventh to give the Nighthawks another insurance run.

NOTES
- Kylee Smith and Amber Johns combined to pitch a shutout against Dominican. Smith struck out nine while giving up just one hit and one walk.

- Hammontree did not register an at-bat in the game, drawing three walks in her three plate appearances.
