No. 2 Softball Closes Disney Citrus Classic With Back-to-Back Wins

ORLANDO - The second-ranked University of North Georgia softball team won both games of a Saturday doubleheader, defeating Dominican, 2-0, before a six-inning win over Wheeling Jesuit, 9-1. The Nighthawks are now 21-0.

Amber Johns earned the win against Dominican, pitching a two-hit shutout that saw the sophomore strike out eight batters.

Leading 1-0 in the fifth, Kaylyn Anthony shot a double to left field, scoring Sydney Sprague on the play to give the Nighthawks a big insurance run, giving North Georgia the win.

In the Wheeling Jesuit game, the Nighthawks' bats exploded. Sprague went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBI, and Alishia Frierson also went 3-for-4 with a double and a homer. Laken Chambers earned the win after throwing four innings, giving up just the one run off three hits.

The Nighthawks will next host the Captain D's Classic at Haines and Carolyn Hill Stadium next weekend. The action starts Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with North Georgia taking the field for the first time at noon.
