DAHLONEGA - With a 68-63 win over Flagler Monday afternoon, head University of North Georgia women's basketball coach
Buffie Burson became just the 11th active NCAA Division II coach to reach the 500 win coaching milestone.
The win didn't come easy as North Georgia trailed by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter, but an unsportsmanlike foul on a Saint with just under seven minutes to play changed the momentum as UNG scored 12 of the next 16 points to cut the Flagler lead to two with 2:47 left.
After a Tabitha Odabe layup put FC up four,
Julianne Sutton and
Tamera Thorpe hit back-to-back layups to tie the game at 62. From there, North Georgia hit four free throws down the stretch to ice the game away, earning the Peach Belt win at home.
