DAHLONEGA - Amber Skidgel and
Tamera Thorpe both had 18 points, but the No. 14 University of North Georgia women's basketball team lost a shootout to No. 3 Carson-Newman, 91-78, Saturday evening in the final game of the UNG Nighthawk Classic.
After trading baskets to start the game, North Georgia pulled out to a eight point lead late in the first quarter on a Thorpe jumper, but C-N clawed back into the game, tying the game with just over two minutes left in the half. Skidgel's three pointer at the buzzer put UNG up by one headed into the break.
From that point, Carson-Newman's shooting heated up as the Eagles shot 21-for-34 in the second half to pull away. North Georgia held the game close for a while, but the Eagles continued to put space between the two teams on the scoreboard when UNG pulled it back.
NOTES
- Thorpe earned her second double-double of the year, pulling down 10 boards to go with her 18 points.
Vanessa Agrusa had 16 points, while
Abbie Franklin added 10.
- The five Eagles in the starting lineup all finished in double figures, led by Kayla Marosites's 23 points. Mika Wester had 20.
