Strong Fourth Quarter Leads Women’s Basketball Past Carson-Newman, 68-59

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — The University of North Georgia women's basketball team used a strong fourth quarter performance to take down Carson-Newman, 68-59, Wednesday evening at Memorial Hall. The Nighthawks move to 8-1 on the season with the victory.

Neither team was able to break out in the first half as there was never a lead higher than two possessions on either side. The Nighthawks closed out the second quarter on a high note taking a three-point lead into the intermission. The Eagles were found a way to get to the free-throw line often in the third quarter, scoring 11 points from the line to take a 52-50 lead into the final period of play.

Amber Skidgel started off the fourth quarter on the right foot sinking a three-pointer to give the Nighthawks a one-point lead to open up the period. UNG held on to a small lead until the Eagles tied the game at the 3:45 mark with a three-point basket from Mika Wester leveling the score at 59-59. It would be the last point scored for C-N though as North Georgia closed the game on a 9-0 run to pick up the non-conference victory.

NOTES
- Amber Skidgel, Mackenzie Darrah, and Kelsey Hutchins all led the team in scoring with 14 points each. Skidgel cleaned up the most boards with eight rebounds on the night.
