Women's Basketball Soars Past West Georgia, 75-59

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — The University of North Georgia women's basketball team extended its undefeated record to 5-0 on the young season by sailing past visiting West Georgia, 75-59, Tuesday night in Dahlonega. Senior Kelsey Hutchins led all scorers with 21 points to stretch her string of consecutive double figure scoring outputs to 32. 
 
The Nighthawks poured it on in the second quarter, outscoring West Georgia 19-11 in the period and pushing out to a 16-point (37-21) halftime advantage.

West Georgia chipped away early in the third quarter, cutting the lead down to as few as 13 but the Nighthawks kept attacking the Wolves' 2-3 zone defense stretching the lead back out to as many as 25, 68-43, with 5:35 remaining in the fourth quarter. 
 
NOTES
- Senior forward Kelsey Hutchins controlled the score line for the Nighthawks with 21 points. Jordan Livesay (15), Deana Blankinship (14) and Amber Skidgel (13) rounded out the double figure scorers for UNG.  Blankinship pulled down a team-best nine rebounds while Hutchins pitched in with eight. 

- De'Ashia Jones (17) and Jessica Brown (15) combined to score 32 points for UWG (0-2) as they were the only two Wolves to reach double figures. 

- Livesay and Skidgel each connected on 3-of-7 shots from long range for North Georgia. 

- The Nighthawks held a 26-12 (+14) edge in points off the bench, fueled by nine from Julie McKie as she connected on all but one of her five shots from the floor. 
 
- With the win the Nighthawks improve to 4-2 all time against West Georgia.

NEXT UP
The Nighthawks will host Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on Saturday, Nov. 26.  Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m., in Memorial Hall.
