PEMBROKE, N.C. — The 12th-ranked University of North Georgia women's soccer team pulled out a hard fought tie at UNC Pembroke, 3-3, Saturday afternoon. The Nighthawks move to 10-1-3 on the year with a 7-1-2 record in the Peach Belt Conference.
Mackenzie Wright got the Braves on the board first in the 34th minute off the rebound of a UNCP penalty kick, but the lead was short-lived for Pembroke as
Rachel VanHorn scored just 13 seconds later playing a ball from
Renee VanHorn to equal the score at 1-1.
The Braves retook the lead early in the second half with a goal from Stacey Scott in the 49th scoring off a set piece from a free kick from Wright.
Rosie Embley found the second equalizer for UNG in the 61st with the assist from
Olivia Dumphy inside the box. The Nighthawks then took their first and only lead of the day in the 69th minute as
Jacy Ramey finished a
Rachel VanHorn cross to put UNG up 3-2.
UNCP was able to draw the match even in the 82nd though as Courtney Crump found a friendly bounce from the cross bar as her shot barely snuck in goal to tie the match at 3-3, the score that would stand through another 28 minutes of play, eight in regulation and the full 20 of overtime.
