Nighthawks Steal Game One from USC Aiken with Walk-off Win

DAHLONEGA | A Travis Naraine pinch-hit walk-off single to right secured the University of North Georgia baseball team's win Friday night against USC Aiken, 4-3. All four UNG runs were unearned. The Nighthawks advance to 16-7 and 10-3 in Peach Belt play.

USC Aiken (19-8, 9-7 PBC) opened up the game on the right foot with a leadoff homer from Sean Miller. The Pacers pushed across another run when Chaz Pal hit a RBI single through the left side to score Tyler Moore from third, giving USC Aiken a 2-0 lead.

The Nighthawks threatened in the bottom of the fifth with two runners in scoring position after a Joey Cecere double, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning.

North Georgia got the leadoff aboard in the sixth when Sam Tidaback reached on an error by the shortstop and followed with Andrew Gordon walking on four straight pitches. Tremayne Toorie reached on catcher's interference to load the bases with no one out. After once again suffering back-to-back strikeouts, the Nighthawks plated two runs with RBI walks from Devin Gearhart and Cecere. Toorie came into score on a passed ball to give UNG the lead, 3-2.

The Pacers evened the score in the top of the eighth when Matt Bosse drew a RBI walk to score TJ Costen from third.

Sam Tidaback sparked the rally in the bottom of the ninth with his one-out single to right field. Cameron Crawford entered to pinch run for Tidaback and stole second and then advanced to third on a third-strike passed ball that reached Andrew Gordon. After Pacer reliever Nick Yobbi got behind in the count to Toorie, USC Aiken issued an intentional walk to load the bases. That's when UNG skipper Tom Cantrell went to his lineup card and brought in Naraine to pinch hit for Bo Edwards and the move paid off as Naraine hit a walk-off single to right, giving the Nighthawks the 4-3 win.

Brandon Agar got the start on the mound for UNG, going 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts, but did not factor in the decision.

Taylor Keinat (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, picking up the last two outs in the top of the ninth, allowing just one hit against the three batters that he faced.

The Nighthawks will look to secure the series victory tomorrow in a doubleheader against USC Aiken. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
