Nighthawks Dominant In Sweep of USC Aiken

DAHLONEGA | The University of North Georgia baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of USC Aiken, 6-3 and 13-1, Saturday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium to claim the series sweep over the Pacers. North Georgia is now 18-7 on the year with a 12-3 mark in Peach Belt Conference play, moving up a spot to second in the league standings.

This is just the second time UNG has picked up a series victory over USC Aiken since joining the PBC and the first at home. North Georgia swept the Pacers in Aiken in 2009; this weekend's series was the first time UNG has picked up a series victory over USCA in Dahlonega.

Game One
The Nighthawks scored the first six runs of the first game, plating a single run in the second, third and fourth innings before hanging a three spot in the scoreboard in the fifth. Trevor Sams drove in Travis Naraine in the second inning with a RBI single to right to plate the game's first run. Steven Tomlinson drove in another in the second with a sacrifice fly to right and Devin Gearhart made it 3-0 when he put down a sacrifice bunt down the first base line to score Tremayne Toorie from third.

Naraine drove in two more in the fifth with his two-run double to right center, then Toorie plated the sixth UNG run with a RBI single to left.

The Pacers pushed across three runs in the top of the eighth to make it a ballgame again, but Chris Cobb came in to pitch a perfect ninth inning and earn his second save of the season.

Jacob Beauchamp (5-1) earned the win on the mound for the Nighthawks going 7.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and a walk. Beauchamp struck out nine.

Game Two
North Georgia used hot hitting along with six Pacer errors to breeze past USC Aiken, 13-1, in the second half of the twin bill.

UNG plated four in the first on two hits and two USCA errors, highlight by a two-run double to left center by Tomlinson. The Nighthawks added three more runs in the second inning with two RBI hits and an RBI walk, giving North Georgia a 7-0 lead.

USC Aiken scored a run in the top of the fifth on a solo homer by Cody Belcher, but the Hawks answered in the bottom half of the inning with a Andrew Gordon grand slam to left, putting the game out of reach at 11-1.

The Nighthawks would add two more runs in the eighth to finish with the 13-1 final.

Dylan Peppers (2-1) picked up the win for UNG going 8.0 innings allowing one run on one hit while striking out nine.
