Baseball Earns Doubleheader Split at No. 25 UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. | The University of North Georgia baseball team battled to pick up a doubleheader split against the 25th-ranked Braves of UNC Pembroke Sunday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field. UNG dropped the first game of the day, 3-1, before picking up a 6-1 victory in game two.

Jacob Beauchamp (4-1) bounced back from his first loss of the season last weekend with a complete game victory over the Braves in the second game of the twin bill.

Game One
North Georgia could never seem to crack UNCP's senior southpaw Wes Helsabeck, only scoring one run off five hits. UNG's lone run of the game came off a Tremayne Toorie homer to right in the top of the second, which evened the game at 1-1.

The Braves would answer though with solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings to take the 3-1 lead.

Brandon Agar (3-3) was charged with the loss for UNG, allowing three runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings pitched.

Game Two
The Nighthawks would get the better of the Braves in the second game of the day, finally getting on the board first in the fifth inning and never turning back.

Travis Naraine scored the first two runs of the game in the fifth and seventh innings off of RBI hits from Joey Cecere and Devin Gearhart, respectively. UNG added three more insurance runs in the top of the ninth with a RBI walk from Connor Hoover, and RBI single up the middle by Steven Tomlinson and a sacrifice fly by Toorie, to take a 6-0 lead.

Beauchamp collected the complete game win for North Georgia, fanning 11 of the 33 batters that he faced.
