PEMBROKE, N.C. | A five-run fifth inning gave No. 25 UNC Pembroke just enough to get past the University of North Georgia baseball team on Monday afternoon, as the Braves defeated the Nighthawks, 8-7. UNG moves to 14-7 overall and 9-3 in Peach Belt action.
After falling behind 3-0 early, North Georgia evened the score with a pair of runs in the fourth off run producing hits from
Travis Naraine and
Tremayne Toorie and a RBI single through the left side by
Steven Tomlinson in the fifth.
UNCP answered in the bottom of the fifth, however scoring five runs – three unearned – on four hits and a costly UNG error.
The Nighthawks fought back with a solo home run by
Andrew Gordon in the sixth and a three-run shot by
Sam Tidaback in the ninth, pulling UNG within one, but a strikeout would end the game.
Phillip Taylor was tagged with the loss in his 2.0 inning relief performance, giving up one run on two hits.
North Georgia returns to Dahlonega tomorrow to host Southern Wesleyan. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Bob Stein Stadium.
