AIKEN, S. C | Despite a trio of players in double figures, the University of North Georgia women's basketball team fell victim to a late first half run that they could never recover from, falling 81-58 at USC Aiken on Wednesday afternoon in USC-A's Convocation Center. Kesley Hutchins led the way with 12 points after connecting on just two of 10 shots from the floor.
Stephanie Huffman added 11 points while
Samantha Glodis came off the bench for 10 points marking the first time the sophomore transfer has scored in double figures on the year.
USC-A's Amaura Brandt led all scorers with a game-high 26 points fueled by 8-of-9 from behind the three-point line. As a team, the Pacers made good on half (13-of-26) of their long distance shots.
North Georgia (20-6, 12-5 PBC) was held to just 31% (16-of-52) from the field and was out-rebounded by nine, 45-36.
After a pair of Huffman free throws cut the Pacer lead to five (31-26) with just over four minutes left in the half, the Pacers finished the first period with a 15-3 run to take a 46-29 lead into the break.
USC Aiken (16-10, 12-5 PBC) scored the first five points of the second half to push the lead to 52-29 and would never look back.
The Nighthawks return to action on Saturday (Feb. 21) with a 1:30 PBC tip off against No. 6 Columbus State in UNG's Memorial Hall. The Cougars are winners of a league-high 11 games and have already clinched at least a share of the PBC's regular season title.
