Softball Dominant in Home Opening Sweep of Miles

DAHLONEGA | The No. 9 University of North Georgia softball team had its way the entire day against Miles taking both games of the doubleheader in shutout fashion, 12-0 and 15-0. The Nighthawks are now 7-1 on the season heading into tomorrow's UNG Loyal Blue Classic.

Meagan Stover picked up the win in both games for UNG, although all three Nighthawk pitchers saw work on the day, only allowing three combined hits in 10 innings of work.

In the first game of the day, a Kim McMillan two-run homer in the bottom of the first sparked a eight-run rally in the opening inning. North Georgia would score four more in the second inning and cruise on to the 12-0 victory.

Game two saw runs more evenly distributed in the four frames that the Nighthawks came up to the plate. North Georgia scratched across three in the first and one in the second before breaking the game open with a seven-run inning in the third, highlighted by a Rochelle Shuman two-run triple to left center.

UNG tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the fourth, three coming off of a three-run triple down the right field line by Hannah McSwain to give the North Georgia the 15-0 lead that proved final.

The Nighthawks return to action tomorrow in the UNG Loyal Blue Classic, taking on Nova Southeastern at Noon and No. 25 Wingate at 4 p.m.
