Softball Drops Pair Of One-Run Games At Loyal Blue Classic

DAHLONEGA | The No. 9 University of North Georgia softball team dropped a pair of one-run contests, falling to Nova Southeastern (3-2) and No. 25 Wingate (1-0), at the UNG Loyal Blue Classic on Saturday at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.  The Nighthawks drop to 7-3 on the season.

Game One vs. Nova Southeastern
Ally Legette (0-2) was tagged with the loss for UNG pitching 3.2 innings three earned runs on four hits, striking out one.

Nova got on the board first when a Meagan Lee line out to right served as a sacrifice fly, scoring Dakota Villella in the fourth. The Sharks would go on to load the bases and score two more in the inning on a two-run single up the middle by Shelby Cogan.

The Nighthawks charged back in the bottom of the fifth plating two runs off of a Jessica Finch two-run single to center, scoring Alexis Collis and Taylor Anne Merritt, to pull North Georgia within one run.

UNG would threaten again, putting the tying run in scoring position in both the bottom of the sixth and bottom of the seventh, but could never push the run across.

Game Two vs. No. 25 Wingate
The Bulldogs needed just a RBI single in the first frame and made it stand up behind a four-hit outing in the circle from Stacey Houser (5-2).  The Nighthawks were able to put the equalizer on second base in seventh but could not even the score.

Courtney Poole (4-1) was saddled with the loss despite striking out nine and allowing a single run.  The junior scattered six Bulldog hits.
