DAHLONEGA | The University of North Georgia baseball team gave up six runs in the first two innings and could never recover as the Indianapolis opened its 2015 season with a 12-3 win over the Nighthawks.
Steven Tomlinson led the way for North Georgia (2-4) with a 2-4 day that included a run scored.
The Greyhounds plated a pair in the first on a two-run homerun by Sean McCracken. They extended the lead to 6-0 just a frame later with the inning punctuated by another two-run blast by Colin Hawk.
North Georgia was able to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and a single run in the fifth.
Indianapolis scored four in the top of the fifth and a single run in the seventh to round out the scoring.
Brandon Agar (1-2) took the loss for the Nighthawks.
Josh Bryan tossed three and a third innings for North Georgia while freshman
Daniel McCrary contributed with three innings of relief, allowing just a single hit.
Devin Gearhart was 1-2 offensively for UNG and scored two of the team's three runs.
Indianapolis outhit the Nighthawks, 13-6. Matthew Kaplanis was credited with the victory after throwing six innings and collecting seven strikeouts.
The two teams will wrap up the three-game non-conference series with a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Bob Stein Stadium.
