VALDOSTA, Ga. | The University of North Georgia baseball team fell in its first game of the 2015 season, 7-5, at Valdosta State Sunday afternoon. UNG bookended the game with a pair of two-run home runs that produced the majority of the North Georgia offense on the day.
The Nighthawks did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard as senior
Tremayne Toorie blasted a two-out two-run homer to left in the top of the first plating freshman
Steven Tomlinson, who had reached on a single to left in his first collegiate at-bat.
Valdosta State scratched across a run in both the bottom of the first and fourth, but finally put up a crooked number in the sixth inning when Hayden Jones hit a two-run homer to put the Blazers up for the first time, 4-2. VSU followed that up with a three-run seventh inning to take a 7-2 advantage.
UNG fought back in the final two innings, scoring the game's final three runs.
Joey Cecere drew a leadoff walk in the top of the eighth and eventually came in to score on a Toorie sacrifice fly to left.
Andrew Gordon started off the ninth with another leadoff walk and was driven home on
Cameron Crawford's two-run shot that resulted in the final 7-5 score.
Kyle Andre (1-0) earned the win in relief for Valdosta State, tossing three near-perfect innings only allowing one hit and a hit by pitch.
Redshirt-junior
Brandon Agar (0-1) was tagged with the loss for UNG after allowing four earned runs on six hits. Agar recorded four strikeouts and did not allow a walk.
North Georgia will return to action on Friday, taking on Pfieffer in the 2015 home opener at Bob Stein Stadium. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
