Salters Scores Two Goals in 3-1 Win Over Lander

DAHLONEGA | The No. 16 University of North Georgia women's soccer team defeated Lander University, 3-1, on Wednesday night behind Madison Salters' two-goal performance at the UNG Soccer Complex.
 
North Georgia led 1-0 at the half after Salters received a free kick from Jessi Vaverka at the 25-minute mark.
 
The Nighthawks wasted little time after the break getting back on the scoreboard as Jade Pennock netted her seventh goal of the season in the 47th minute. Salters put home her second goal of the night 40 minutes later off of a rebound.
 
The Bearcats found a goal in the final minute of play when Erin Dooley scored on a penalty kick.
 
NOTES
- The Nighthawks move to 12-2-1 overall and 7-2-1 in Peach Belt play. Lander fell to 7-7-0 and 5-5-0 in conference.
- North Georgia outshot Lander 22-6 and 9-4 in shots on goal. The Nighthawks have outshot their opponents by double figures in three of the last five matches.
- The Nighthawks finish the home portion of their regular season schedule 6-0-1.
- The win guarantees UNG a home match in the PBC Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
 
STAT OF THE NIGHT
1 – Over the past two seasons, the Nighthawks have lost just one home match, going 15-1-1 in the past two years. The lone loss came to then-ranked No. 17 Columbus State last season.
 
NEXT UP
The Nighthawks will travel to USC Aiken on Saturday, Oct. 31 to finish out the regular season. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
