Bowlt’s Golden Goal Puts Nighthawks over Hurricanes

DAHLONEGA – Almost three minutes into the first overtime period, senior Daniel Bowlt put a penalty kick into the right side of the goal to give North Georgia a 2-1 win over Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon in front of a Senior Day crowd of 502.
 
With the win, the Nighthawks improve to 2-8-1 overall and 1-3-0 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Canes fall to 1-6-2 and 0-3-1 in conference play.
 
North Georgia scored in the eighth minute when Amin El-Shami headed home an Irving Salgado free kick from 35 yards out.
 
Silvio Polly evened the score at 1-1 in the 48-th minute after avoiding defenders and shooting to the far post.
 
NOTES
- The Nighthawks are 2-2 in penalty kicks this year. The other made penalty kick was on September 10 against Tampa, also taken by Bowlt.
 
- The overtime win was the first for the Nighthawks since 2013 in the season opener against Barry.
 
- North Georgia improves to 2-2-0 at the UNG Soccer Complex.

"We just kept grinding," UNG head coach Patrice Parris said. "We got to overtime and Bowlt on Senior Day was cool, calm and collected when taking the penalty. People dream of taking those shots, but under the pressure, Bowlt came through and gave us the win."
 
STAT OF THE DAY
17 – The Nighthawks took 17 shots to Georgia Southwestern's nine. The 17 shots is the most of the 2015 season.

The Nighthawks will travel to Morrow to take on Clayton State in another PBC matchup on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
