Nighthawks Break Into Win Column With 2-0 Victory At Lees-McRae

Box Score BANNER ELK, North Carolina | The University of North Georgia men's soccer team secured its first win of the 2014 season by downing host Lees-McRae by the score of 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon at LMC's Fred I. Dickerson Athletic Complex.  The Nighthawks used a pair of late second half goals to post their first shutout victory since a 1-0 decision at Barry in the 2013 season-opener.

Neither team was able to score until the 71st minute when UNG's Malte Krapp found the back of the net following a scramble for a free ball on the right side of the net.  The eventual game-winner is the junior forward's first of the season.

North Georgia added an insurance goal 12 minutes later when sophomore Matt Shaftoe registered his first goal of the year, finding the right corner from 14 yards out.

Goalie Victor Ohlin stopped all three shots from Lees-McRae (2-1) to record his first shutout of the year.

The game's offensive chances were relatively even with the Bobcats holding a slim 17-15 advantage in shots while the Nighthawks held the edge in corner kicks, 8-7.

North Georgia (1-2) returns to action on Saturday, September 13 against Spring Hill at 5:00 p.m. at the UNG Soccer Complex.
