AUSTIN, Texas | University of North Georgia women's soccer player
Megan Morrow has been named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District 3 women's soccer team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The honor marks the second consecutive season that the junior defender has earned the distinction.
First-team Academic All-District soccer honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
The team is made up of 15 student-athletes across the Southeast Region including the Peach Belt Conference, South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas.
In addition to carrying a 3.45 cumulative grade point average in Biology/Pre-Pharmacy, the Snellville native anchors the defense for the No. 12 women's soccer team. Defensively, the Nighthawks lead the league in goals-against average (0.62).
Offensively, Morrow has collected a league-leading 10 assists which ranks her 14
th in NCAA Division II. As a team, North Georgia leads the nation in scoring offense with 3.63 goals per contest.
She is a two-time All-Conference performer and was named to the PBC's All-Academic team last season.
The Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America ® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
