How Riner got to UNG
Ellie Jane Riner came to Dahlonega in 2024 as a well established high school golfer out of Havana, Fla. Competing for Maclay School, Riner raked in a number of accolades during her career. In 2023 she won the Big Bend Championship before taking home the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 1A District D3 Championship. She would go on to finish as the Runner-Up in the Region 1 Championship and ended the State Championship in a tie for 20th. Riner was eventually named the 2024 Big Bend Player of the Year for her accomplishments. In February, Riner competed in the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour's Sea Island Junior Classic on St. Simon's Island. Riner shot a final-round 74 for the lowest round of the day and second-lowest of the tournament overall, aiding her to a second place finish in the event. Riner is not only impressive on the course, but in the classroom as well. She was a member of the National Honor Society at Maclay and was named the 2024 Scholar Athlete of the Year by Tallahassee's WCTV news station. Riner finished her high school career with a near 4.5 grade point average.
