Lauren Pounds is entering her first year as a graduate assistant coach for the University of North Georgia women’s basketball program. After a three-year playing career at UNG, Pounds will transition to a new role from the sidelines, assisting with all aspects of the program.

She was named the inaugural women's winner of the Mike and Amy Wood Foundation Graduate Scholarship, the Peach Belt Conference. The scholarship provides financial assistance to one men's and one women's PBC basketball player who will either be starting or has begun graduate studies in the league. This is the first year of the scholarship endowed by long-time PBC coordinator of men's basketball officials Mike Wood and his wife, Amy.

Pounds began her graduate work at UNG last summer towards a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. The Canton native finished her playing career in the 2015-16 season for the Nighthawks, graduating with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Pounds was named to the PBC Presidential Honor Roll three times and to the women's basketball All-Academic team twice and has been teaching in elementary school and serving as a graduate assistant on the women's basketball team.

On the court, Pounds played in 85 games for the Nighthawks over three seasons after transferring to UNG from LaGrange. She averaged 6.3 points and 3.2 rebounds her junior season and collected 3.5 rebounds per game her senior year. She received the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award her senior season.
