How Berry got to UNG
Kayla Berry joins the Nighthawk program this season after finishing an outstanding career at East Paulding High School in Acworth, Ga. In four years with the Raiders, Berry posted three straight seasons with a .378 or better batting average. She was two-time all-state selection, a two-time state all-star and a three-time all-region selection. In her junior season, Berry dominated opponents with a .512 batting average, 19 extra base hits and 20 RBI. She was named First Team All-State by the Georgia High School Athletic Association (GHSA) as East Paulding went 24-9 and finished the GHSA Playoffs as the 6A Position D Runner-Up. The following year, Berry torched again, hitting .443 at the plate with three home runs and 19 RBI. She was named GHSA Second Team All-State as the Raiders completed back-to-back regional championships. Berry was not only stellar on the diamond but in the classroom as well, graduating in the top 10 of her class and earning a Georgia Certificate of Merit for her studies. She will major in Interdisciplinary Studies this year. Berry said, "The first time I visited, UNG felt like home... I felt led to go there. The championship culture of the softball program is something I wanted to be a part of."
