Sarah Phillips

Sarah Phillips is entering her third season as the assistant coach of the University of North Georgia softball team. A two-time All-American and four-year standout at North Georgia, Phillips joined the Nighthawks in the fall of 2014 after serving as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Radford for two seasons.

Phillips made an immediate impact on the staff helping shape NFCA National Player of the Year, Courtney Poole in 2015 on the team’s way to its first national championship. Poole was also named the D2CCA Ron Lenz National Pitcher of the Year in both 2015 and 2015, an award that Phillips also won as a player.

In her first season with at Radford, she guided rookie pitcher Rachael Walters to a first-team all-conference selection.

Phillips enjoyed one of the most prolific softball careers in NCAA Division II history. The two-time Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year finished her career as the league’s all-time leader in wins (124), appearances (164), starts (142), complete games (113) and innings (946.1) along with North Georgia’s record holder for strikeouts (911) and shutouts (45). Her wins rank sixth on the NCAA’s all-time list.

She was the main catalyst on a North Georgia squad that made three straight NCAA Division II College World Series appearances, which was most evident in 2010 when she won 44 straight games and was named the Ron Lenz Division II National Pitcher of the Year.

In addition to her collegiate success, Phillips gained international experience when she was selected to the 2011 Canadian Women’s National Team. She competed in the Scotiabank Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship, World Cup of Softball, and the Pan American Games, where she helped Team Canada to a silver medal.

Following her playing career, Phillips served as a graduate assistant coach at UNG and also served as an assistant during the 2011 season at nearby Lumpkin County High School.

The Mississauga, Ontario native is a 2011 graduate of North Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education.
