Brooke O’Hair enters her third season as the head coach of the University of North Georgia softball program.
In her first two years at the helm of the Nighthawk softball program, O’Hair has continued to build some of the most elite teams in NCAA Division II. Since the 2025 season, she has coached seven National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Americans, an NFCA Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Catcher of the Year, a D2CCA Region Player of the Year, 14 All-Region selections, a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Freshman of the Year and 11 All-Conference selections.
O’Hair built upon a successful first season in Dahlonega with another standout year in 2026. The Nighthawks finished the season 52-11 to accompany their second-straight appearance in the NCAA Division II Championship in Chattanooga, Tenn. Along the way, UNG secured its twelfth-straight PBC Regular Season Title, a PBC Tournament Championship and a Southeast Regional Championship.
North Georgia went on to defeat Glenville State 5-0 in an elimination game in Chattanooga, marking the first NCAA National Championship win of O’Hair’s career.
Six Nighthawks earned 2026 PBC All-Conference honors, while Sydnee Reaves and Chloe Poss were named the PBC Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year respectively. O’Hair was also named the PBC Coach of the Year.
O’Hair’s Nighthawks continued to collect accolades on the regional and national levels in 2026. Eight Nighthawks collected NFCA and D2CCA All-Region selections, while Reaves was also selected as the D2CCA Region Player of the Year. Reaves and Poss also earned NFCA All-American nods, and Reaves received a D2CCA All-American First-Team selection. The Ashland, Ala. native capped off her decorated senior season by being named the Schutt Sports/NFCA Player of the Year.
O’Hair and her staff also received regional recognition as the 2026 NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.
During the 2026 campaign, O’Hair shaped one of the best hitting teams in the country. As a team, UNG led all of Division II softball with 131 doubles, while ranking top 10 nationally in hits (586), home runs (67), RBI (417), slugging percentage (.537) and total runs (458). The Nighthawks also drew 238 walks, setting the new single-season record while also ranking sixth in Division II.
On Sept. 10, 2024, O’Hair was hired as the third head coach in the esteemed history of North Georgia softball, marking a new chapter for the program.
In her first season as the head coach, the Nighthawks went 48-16, which included a 19-5 PBC record and an 11th-straight PBC Regular Season Championship. North Georgia’s success in 2025 culminated in an NCAA Division II Softball Championship appearance for the ninth time in 17 years.
O’Hair mentored three NFCA and D2CCA All-Americans in 2025, including an NFCA First Team All-American, Freshman of the Year and Catcher of the Year in Carleigh Knowles. The rookie was also named the PBC Freshman of the Year along with four other PBC All-Conference teammates.
UNG’s performance in 2025 was bolstered by one of the best team offensive seasons in program history. The team's 83 home runs and .579 slugging percentage were far and away the best power marks for a single season in program history. In the program's 29-year varsity history, the 2025 Nighthawks also sat second for single-season totals in RBIs (448), runs scored (489) and triples (28) while ranking third in on-base percentage (.421), at bats (1,789), hits (612) and doubles (118). UNG also showed record-setting discipline at the plate this year, recording the fourth-most walks (205) in a season and the second-fewest strikeouts (173) in the NCAA era in program history.
O’Hair joined the Nighthawk softball program after a decorated 18 seasons as the head coach at Mississippi College. She accumulated 531 career wins with the Lady Choctaws to become the winningest head coach in program history. A two-time Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year (2023, 2024) at Mississippi College, O’Hair mentored seven NFCA All-Americans and 141 All-Region players.
During her tenure at Mississippi College, O’Hair was pivotal in bringing the Lady Choctaws to the national spotlight. She helped guide the softball program at Mississippi College to nine NCAA Tournament appearances, including two Super Regional berths.
A Chattanooga, Tennessee native, O'Hair brings a wealth of experience to UNG, including valuable insights from her time as a volunteer assistant at her alma mater, Mississippi State. As a standout player, O'Hair was instrumental in the most successful era of Bulldog softball, helping the team reach the SEC Tournament all four years and the NCAA Regional in three seasons. Her excellence extended beyond the field, as she earned SEC All-Academic honors three times before graduating with a bachelor's degree in physical education.
O’Hair and her husband, Tony, have two children, Sydney and Cooper.
