Alea Medina is entering her fifth season as an assistant coach for the UNG softball program. 

During Medina’s first season on the coaching staff in 2023, the Nighthawks captured the program's second National Championship in Chattanooga, Tenn. Medina helped direct one of the best pitching staffs in NCAA Division II that saw the Nighthawks break the program record for wins in a season (64). 

In years two, three and four with Medina in the dugout, UNG has remained a powerhouse in NCAA Division II softball with a Super Regional berth in 2024 and trips to the NCAA National Championship in 2025 and 2026. 

Medina has shaped some of the best pitchers in Division II softball as an assistant coach at North Georgia. In 2024, she guided Tybee Denton to become the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Pitcher of the Year and Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Region Pitcher of the Year. In 2026, Chloe Poss was named the PBC Pitcher of the Year, a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American, an NFCA and D2CCA All-Region selection and a PBC All-Conference First Team selection under Medina’s leadership. 

Over the last four seasons, Medina’s pitchers have earned four All-American selections, 10 All-Region selections and eight All-Conference selections.  

The 2026 campaign was another standout season for UNG’s pitching staff. The Nighthawks ranked atop the PBC in ERA (2.43), strikeouts (312), shutouts (16) and opposing batting average (.227). 

During Medina’s time in Dahlonega, the Nighthawks have compiled a staggering 216-47 record, winning the Peach Belt Conference Regular-season Championship in all four years and the NCAA Southeast Regional title three times.  

Medina has played a key role on North Georgia’s staff that was named the 2026 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Regional Coaching Staff of the Year and 2023 NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year. 

Following her decorated career as a player, Medina joined University of Central Florida head coach Cindy Ball-Malone’s staff as a graduate assistant and helped lead the Knights to a 49-win season and their first hosting nod as the No. 16 national seed. The Black and Gold made more history by sweeping their way through the Orlando Regional, punching their first ticket to the NCAA's Super Regionals. 

As a pitcher, she holds UCF’s all-time career wins mark with 99 and was a three-time NFCA First Team All-Region nod (2018, 2019, and 2021), becoming the first player in UCF program history to accomplish the feat. The three-year captain also collected American Athletic Conference First Team All-Conference honors following her senior year.
