How Hawkinson got to UNG
Zack Hawkinson enters the 2024-25 season as a freshman after joining the UNG men's basketball program last season. He redshirted the 2023-24 campaign after joining the Nighthawks as a distinguished alumnus of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School in his hometown of Springfield, Ill. With the Cyclones, Hawkinson had a tremendous career finishing as the program's second all-time leading scorer. He was twice an Illinois High School Association (IHSA) All-State selection, was the 2022 Central State Eight Conference Player of the Year and helped Sacred Heart-Griffin to a Class 3A Illinois State Championship in 2022. As a senior, Hawkinson nearly averaged a double-double with 16.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor.Â
