How Akwiwu got to UNG
Stephen Akwiwu joins UNG this season after spending his freshman year at the University of Hartford, a Division III school in Hartford, Conn. Akwiwu was a stellar freshman last season for the Hawks. He made 22 starts, averaging 13.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.0 block per night. The rookie led his team in all aforementioned categories and was second on the team with 40 assists. Akwiwu reached double-figure scoring 19 times which included five 20+ point outings, highlighted by a career-high 25 points against Nazareth. The 6-foot-6, 225 lb forward is a native of Hoschton, Ga. and returns to his home state in his second season of collegiate basketball. UNG stood out to Akwiwu because of the "family atmosphere and great history of the athletics program."
