How Stephens got to UNG
Jake Stephens is the furthest traveled Nighthawk on the 2024-25 roster. The Chelsea, Mich. native moved 688 miles from home after graduating from Chelsea High School last spring. With the Bulldogs, Stephens led the team to an appearance in the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division Division 2 State Semifinals, the furthest playoff run in program history. Stephens, Chelsea's all-time leader in career points and rebounds, was twice named to the Associated Press All-State Team. He has credited his father, Greg, as an influence for his unselfish play style. Greg Stephens was a Division I point guard at Navy and East Tennessee State from 1995 to 1999. In 1998, he led the Southern Conference at 17.2 points per game. After an official visit to UNG in September of 2023, Stephens committed to the Nighthawks later that month. He said, "what made UNG stand out was how close the team was and how they welcomed me in just like another teammate, and how much the coaches cared about my family and I."
