McCormick, S.C. – The University of North Georgia (UNG) women's golf team has secured its sixth team title in program history after a first-place finish at the Savannah Lakes Fall Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
The Nighthawks strung together another top-scoring outing in the final round at four-over par to close out the tournament in the top spot at five-over. UNG finished with an eight-stroke advantage over the rest of the 18-team field.
North Georgia is bringing home a team title for the first time since October 2020 at the NCAA Regional Preview.
From start to finish, the Nighthawks put on one of their best regular-season performances in program history. North Georgia's 869 (+5) finish marks the second-best 54-hole score in program history. UNG's 284 (-4) score in the opening round in McCormick also serves as its second-best 18-hole round ever.
Anderson finished as the tournament runner-up at 13-over par, while Erskine and Wingate rounded out the top three in a tie for third at 21-over.
For the second-straight day, Ellie Jane Riner put together a standout performance, as the junior carded an even-72 par to lock up a tied third-place individual finish at 215 (-1). Riner has now tied the sixth-best 54-hole score in program history and locked up back-to-back All-Tournament Team selections in the first two events this fall.
Abby Franks once again shined on the course in round three at 74 (+2) to close out the tournament at one-over par for a tied top-seven finish.
After a three-stroke improvement from round two, Mackenzie Connell closed out her tournament strong at two-over par to finish 10th individually.
Camryn Wright proved to be a steady presence for the Nighthawks with a 75 (+3) showing in the finale to secure a tied 16th-place finish at five over.
Leigh Allen continued to soar up the individual rankings on day two, jumping 37 spots to a tied 37th-place finish after carding 74 (+2) in the final round.
With a team title and a runner-up finish under their belt through the first two tournaments of the season, the Nighthawks bring a lot of momentum into the DBU Classic on Sept. 28 and 29 at the Dallas Athletic Club.
