DAHLONEGA - The No. 16 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team earned the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional and will face fifth-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne on May 8 in Salisbury, North Carolina.
No. 6 Catawba is the top seed and will take on eighth-seeded Erskine in the regional's other semifinal.Â
The NCAA postseason appearance is the ninth consecutive for North Georgia.
The Nighthawks enter the postseason with a 16-7 overall record, including a 5-2 mark in Peach Belt Conference play, after advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament. North Georgia opened the league tournament with a win over Lander before falling to Flagler.
North Georgia has been powered by a strong singles lineup throughout the season, led by Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year Olesya Stokusova. Stokusova is ranked No. 40 nationally in singles and earned First Team All-PBC honors. Teammate Anastasiia Opolska, ranked No. 19 nationally in singles, also garnered First Team All-PBC recognition.
The duo of Opolska and Stokusova has been equally effective in doubles play, earning a No. 25 national ranking. Sofia Giraldo added to the Nighthawks' postseason honors with a Second Team All-PBC selection in singles.
North Georgia holds a 5-0 all-time record against Lenoir-Rhyne, including a 5-2 victory in the most recent meeting in February 2020.
The winner of the four-team regional will advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships in Surprise, Arizona.
