ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - AJ White became the No. 6 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's basketball all-time leading scorer Saturday with a 20-point game, but Flagler rallied with a dominant second-half surge to hand the Nighthawks a 77-73 overtime loss in Peach Belt Conference action.
White finished with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including three triples, surpassing the program's career scoring mark early in the contest as North Georgia built momentum in the opening half. The Nighthawks controlled the early pace and carried a 34-22 advantage into halftime, limiting Flagler to just 22 first-half points.
Flagler flipped the script after the break, opening the second half on a sustained run that erased the deficit and swung momentum. The Saints poured in 42 second-half points, repeatedly attacking the paint and getting to the foul line to seize control late in regulation.
North Georgia answered with timely stops and baskets down the stretch, forcing overtime after trading leads in the final minutes of regulation. In the extra period, Flagler edged ahead behind a 13-point overtime frame, while the Nighthawks struggled to convert late possessions.
Colin Turner led the North Georgia offense with 25 points on 11-of-22 shooting and added four rebounds and two assists. AJ Baskerville and Zack Hawkinson tallied eight rebounds each to lead the Nighthawks'Â defensive effort.
With the loss, UNG moves to 9-2 overall and 3-2 in the Peach Belt.
Mason Manning led Flagler (9-4, 4-2 PBC) with 19 points, four rebounds and three assists.
North Georgia returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 7 with a PBC matchup at home against GCSU in Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
