No. 16 Nighthawks Finish Seventh In DBU Classic

9/23/2025 5:01:00 PM

DENTON, Texas – The No. 16 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's golf team posted a seventh-place finish at the DBU Classic in Denton, Texas at Oakmont Country Club Tuesday afternoon.

Heavy rainfall in the Denton area caused a change in tournament proceedings Monday. Due to the extensive moisture on the course, the DBU Classic was altered from a 54-hole event to 36 holes Monday morning. Round one was played Monday and the event concluded with round two on Tuesday.

UNG closed its second tournament of the year at 12-over par, finishing seventh out of the 15-team field. Host No. 1 Dallas Baptist won the event at 10-under. No. 17 UT Tyler came in second place at even par followed by Rogers State (7-over), No. 22 Midwestern State (7-over) and Barry (8-over).

The Nighthawks were led by a stellar performance from their lone senior golfer Cora Mount. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native shot a 2-under 70 on Monday at the 6,396-yard Oakmont Country Club. She followed that up with a 3-under 69 on Tuesday to finish at 5-under in total.

Mount had a bogey-free back nine which was set up by back-to-back birdies to close the front nine. She then birdied both par 5s on the back (13 and 15) to finish with the second-best 18-hole score of her career.

Mount's performance led to a standalone second-place finish in the DBU Classic, marking the best finish of her career.

Four other Nighthawks were bunched together in the top-50 of the 93-player field Tuesday.

Sophomore Camryn Wright and freshman Claire Bradford finished in a tie for 41st place with four other competitors after concluding the tournament at 6-over.

Meanwhile sophomore Ellie Jane Riner and junior Abby Franks did the same in 47th place as they made up pieces of a six-way tie at 7-over.

Freshman Leigh Allen made headlines despite competing as an individual this week. After shooting an even-par 72 on Monday, Allen calmly submitted a 4-over 76 on Tuesday to close the outing in 31st place individually, the second-best performance of any Nighthawk.

Now UNG turns its attention to the biggest tournament of the year. The Nighthawks come home and will prepare to host the 12th Annual LeeAnn Noble Memorial.

The LeeAnn Noble Memorial Golf Tournament is held annually in loving memory of the late LeeAnn Noble, a former member of the UNG women's golf team that passed away in 2014. LeeAnn was a member of the UNG women's golf team and a nursing student who received a heart transplant when she was 12 years old. In January of 2014, she experienced a heart attack from which she was unable to recover.

In addition to being a leader on her team, LeeAnn was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was an active member of the university community.

This year's 12th Annual LeeAnn Noble Memorial is set to take place at Achasta Golf Club Oct. 13-14. Last year, the Nighthawks broke numerous program records during the 11th Annual LeeAnn Noble which included the team 18- and 54-hole program scoring records and the second-best individual 54-hole score in program history (5-under, Riner).
