WEST POINT, N.Y. – The No. 19 University of North Georgia (UNG) rifle team traveled to West Point, N.Y. for a match against No. 14 Army and suffered a close 4688-4632 loss to the Black Knights. UNG's top shooter was junior
Maya Cameron as she finished with an aggregate score of 1,164 points after posting a 576 in smallbore and a 588 in air rifle. Cameron finished seventh overall in the match.
A few other Nighthawk shooters made headlines with personal records on Saturday. Sophomore
Abby Swain set a new personal record in smallbore with 578 points as she posted the best score among all UNG competitors in the discipline. Then in air rifle, freshman
Wyatt Hicks posted a score of 582 as he set a new record.
Freshman
Brianna Walter had a strong day as she combined a 570 in smallbore with a 582 in air rifle as her 1,156 aggregate score to earn a ninth place finish.
Hicks coupled his personal record in air rifle with a 570 in smallbore as he finished in 10th place on the aggregate leaderboard with a 1,152 point total.
The Nighthawks and Black Knights will face off again tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 16 for one final match before the NCAA Qualifiers on Saturday, Feb. 22
