JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Fueled by a school record smallbore score of 2316 the University of North Georgia (UNG) rifle team posted an aggregate score of 4661, one point off a season-best, at No. 12 Jacksonville State on Saturday. In the team scores, the Nighthawks fell to the host Gamecocks, 4680 to 4661, but finished second out of five teams including outscoring No. 18 UAB (4639), No. 19 UT Martin (4615) and Wofford (4529).
North Georgia's 4661 was just three points shy of the school record.
Corbin Jockers highlighted a standout day for the Nighthawks by posting a personal record of 586 smallbore score that was anchored by a perfect 200 in the prone position.
Ian Lyons added a strong 580 (23), while
Abby Swain (577) and Bri Walter (573) provided crucial depth toward the team total.
In air rifle,
Abby Swain led the way in the discipline, firing a 589 with 43 centers to pace the Nighthawks. Bri Walter followed closely at 587 (37 centers), while
Courtney Allison delivered North Georgia's top single discipline score with a 585 (36).
Freshman
Wyatt Hicks added a key 576 (32), and
Alison Sutherlin produced a steady 584 (35) in her air rifle appearance.
North Georgia takes a break before traveling up to West Point, N.Y. in the new year to take on Army on Saturday, Jan. 27.
