MORGANTOWN, W.V. – The No. 18 University of North Georgia (UNG) rifle team earned a decisive head-to-head victory over Wofford and held its own against powerhouse No. 5 West Virginia on Sunday, closing competition at the multi-team WVU Fall Classic with a 4,611 aggregate score.
The Nighthawks finished 81 points clear of Wofford (4,530), extending a strong head-to-head trend against the Terriers this season. UNG outshot Wofford in both smallbore (2,275-2,236) and air rifle (2,336-2,294), using depth in the air gun relay to create separation across the lineup.
Courtney Allison led North Georgia in air rifle with a 589, outscoring Wofford's top shooter by 10 points, while Bri Walter (586) and
Maya Cameron (584) also posted top-25 scores.
Alison Sutherlin added a 578 to help secure a comfortable team margin.
In smallbore,
Ian Lyons (571) and
Corbin Jockers (569) each finished ahead of Wofford's top marks, helping North Georgia build an early advantage the Terriers could not close.
Maya Cameron and Allison added matching 568 and 567 scores to round out the scoring four.
Against host and fifth-ranked West Virginia, the Nighthawks held steady while competing alongside one of the country's deepest rosters. WVU posted a 4,742 aggregate, highlighted by three shooters above 1,175, while UNG's balanced lineup produced one of its strongest overall road performances of the fall.
North Georgia's air rifle total of 2,336 was particularly competitive, landing within 49 points of the Mountaineers' 2,385, marking one of the program's smaller margins against WVU in recent seasons.
The Nighthawks return to action on Saturday, Nov. 22 when they travel to face No. 11 Jacksonville State.
