DAHLONEGA – For the first time since February 2018, the University of North Georgia basketball teams will return to historic Memorial Hall, hosting Columbus State on Wednesday, Dec. 10 for an inaugural Throwback Game. The women's contest is scheduled to tip off at 5:30, followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.
Constructed in 1960, Memorial Hall served as the primary home court for North Georgia basketball for nearly five decades following the restart of intercollegiate athletics in 1970. On Jan. 24, 2015, the facility's playing surface was officially renamed in honor of longtime men's basketball coach and athletics director Bill Ensley, who reestablished the men's program in 1971 and led the department for 24 years.
The last intercollegiate games in Memorial Hall took place on Feb. 18, 2018, when more than 1,300 fans packed the stands for Spirit Night as the Nighthawks split a doubleheader with Clayton State. The following week, the UNG women's team christened the new UNG Convocation Center with a 105–52 victory over Georgia Southwestern.
Throughout the evening, UNG will celebrate the rich heritage of its basketball programs, highlighting milestone moments to include the first intercollegiate games in 1970, the 50th anniversary of the 1976 men's team that captured back-to-back Georgia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season titles and the 20th anniversary of the 2006 women's team that claimed the university's first Peach Belt Conference regular-season championship during its inaugural NCAA Division II campaign.
Both the North Georgia men's and women's teams will wear retro replica uniforms and shooting shirts featuring the vintage Saints logo. Commemorative event t-shirts with the Saints mascot will be available for purchase, and in-game elements will feature a nostalgic look inspired by pre-2000s North Georgia basketball. There will also be fan photo opportunities with the old Saints mascot in front of a legacy backdrop.
Single-game general admission tickets are valid for both contests and can be purchased
here. Due to the building's limited capacity, fans are encouraged to buy tickets early to guarantee a seat. A limited number of standing-room-only tickets will also be available.
Nighthawk Athletic Club members and current basketball season ticket holders will be admitted using their existing credentials. Both games will stream live on the Nighthawk Sports Network.
