PALM HARBOR, Fla. – The second-ranked University of North Georgia (UNG) men's golf team sits in 14
th place heading into the final round at the Copperhead Championship at Innisbruck Resort and Golf Club. The Nighthawks carded matching rounds of 299 (+15).
Top-ranked and host West Florida leads the 17-team event at nine-under par and is joined by fourth-ranked Lee (five-under) as the only two teams to post red figures.
Hunter Smith was the Nighthawks top performer with a back-to-back rounds of one-over 72 and sits in 22nd overall.
Heading into tomorrow's final round
Colby Bennett is in 53
rd place following rounds of 77-73—150 (+8).
Rhett Smith and
Drew Sutherland share a tie for 66
th with scores of 10-over.
Sutherland's opening round of 5-over 76 was highlighted by an eagle on the par five 11
th hole.
The loaded tournament field features eight of the nation's top-10 ranked teams in latest Bushnell/Golfweek NCAA Division II national poll.
Individually, West Florida's TJ Thompson leads all players with a four-under 36-hole score.
The final round of the 54-hole tournament is set for tomorrow morning.
